Dan Carter-Incontro 1947-2010

Bent Alaska received this sad news Sunday evening:
"Dan Carter-Incontro, long time Alaskan GLBT activist and supporter of equal rights for all, died this afternoon in Clermont, Florida, at the age of 62. Dan had been fighting complications from diabetes for many years but finally was overcome by the disease. He is survived by his husband, Al Carter-Incontro, and many Alaskan friends. A Celebration of Life will be held in Anchorage at a date yet to be determined. More details will be forthcoming as they are known."
Dan was known and admired by many, and will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Al, and to all whose lives were touched by Dan. Rest in peace.

  2. Update: Services for Dan Carter-Incontro will be held on Saturday at 3:30 pm at the Nazarene Church in Lake City, Florida. Dan’s sister, Sarah, provided the phone number of the local florist if anyone wants to send flowers: 386-755-0833.

If you wish to make a donation to the Anchorage Gay & Lesbian Community Center which Dan continued to support, an acknowledgement will be sent to Al and Sarah. Al is planning a trip to Alaska perhaps in May at which time a gathering of friends will be planned.

  3. I'm so sorry to hear this. We've lost a brother in the cause... I have smiles for so many thoughts I have of Dan's life. There are so many, many smiles.

He changed so much for so many: a life lived well.

Love from across the pond in London, Jay Dugan-Brause

I'm on my way to Alaska to attend Ken Freedman's Celebration of Life, and I just found out from Susan Klein about Dan. I loved working with him on Dandelion, Anchorage's then GLBT advocacy group (only then, we were still saying Lesbigay) named after the poem I wrote. We got a civil rights ordinance then (year?), and lost it, and now there's another, and it's been vetoed! Yet Salt Lake City has one. Go figure!

Such sweet guys, Dan and Al. Tears in my eyes. I don't have an address for them, and I'd like to write Al. If anyone has it please email it to me: ktcarlisle@commspeed.net. His snail mail, not his e-mail.

    Thank you!
