It has always been at EKLUTNA, the LEAST visible place because back in the day, folks wanted to NOT be seen. And Eklutna has been sold, so we cannot use that space in the future.

CelticDiva said...: I was involved with the LGBT Community in the early 90's as I sang in the band "Sky Is Blu" for close to 6 years. I also helped work on the Ordinance to make sexual orientation part of the protected classes for Municipal employees. I still feel nauseous when I think of the horrible testimony at the Assembly meetings and I will NEVER forgive Jerry Prevo for what he did and said back then.

When our band was chosen to go to DC for the LGBT March on Washington in '93, we all were interviewed and photographed for the Daily News and several television spots. Soon after, I started getting nasty, threatening calls and had all four of my tires slashed. Anchorage Police had just started tracking hate crimes and I remember they "congratulated" me on being the first one.

I think it is great that it has a new location closer to town. You might try to put a sign down at Eklutna - as many people have not noticed the change... hard to do with the fab-u-los BIG GAY PICNIC posters. They looks great. Kudos to whoever did them.; 5/24/08, 3:15 AM
